Candle Safety & Burning Instructions
Your safety matters to me, and I want you to get the best performance from your Moonlight & Moth candle. Please read these guidelines before lighting.
General Safety
Always burn your candle within sight
Never leave a burning candle unattended
Keep away from children, pets, and flammable items
Do not burn near drafts, open windows, or fans
Only burn on a stable, heat-safe surface
Before Each Burn
Trim your wick to ¼ inch before lighting
Keep the wax surface clear of matches and debris
Make sure the jar is free of cracks
During the Burn
Do not burn longer than 3–4 hours at a time
Allow a full melt pool (edge-to-edge) to form on the first burn
Keep candles spaced at least 4 inches apart
If the flame becomes too tall, flickering, or smoky, extinguish the candle, trim the wick, and relight
Do not touch the jar while the candle is burning — the glass can become very hot
Candle Burn Characteristics
My candles are intentionally wicked to create a strong, full melt pool and to reduce common soy-wax issues such as tunneling, sinkholes, and weak scent throw. Because of this, they may burn hotter than mass-produced candles.
As the candle burns lower, the melt pool may deepen and, in some cases, the wick can shift slightly.
This is normal for a hotter-burning soy candle, but it requires proper care.
For safety:
Extinguish the candle immediately if the wick begins to lean or shift
Always stop burning when ½ inch to 1 inch of wax remains
Never burn the candle all the way to the bottom
Do not touch or move the jar until the wax has completely cooled
Do not put the lid back on until the wax has fully cooled
These steps prevent overheating and protect the container.
After the Burn — Repurposing Your Jar
Moonlight & Moth jars are beautiful and reusable. After your candle is finished:
1. Let the jar cool completely
2. Pour hot (not boiling) water into the jar — the remaining wax will melt and float to the top
3. Allow the water to cool so the wax hardens
4. Scoop the wax off the surface with a spoon and discard
5. Pour out the water
6. Wash the jar with warm water and mild soap
Perfect for re-use as:
Cotton rounds
Bathroom or vanity storage
Q-tips
Hair ties or clips
Crystals or jewelry
Herbs or dried florals
Desk supplies
A tealight holder
A tiny plant pot
Reusing your jar keeps the magic going and reduces waste.
Important Reminder
